OVERLOOKED: Elite Ballers Go to Pro Camp

A one day Pro camp conducted by former NBA player Oliver Lee, Uncle and once trainer of NBA Legend Vince Carter, Ben Darling, owner and coach of the Bay Area Matrix and a group of talented basketball athletes proved exciting and beneficial. Coaches ran participants through college and NBA drills to determine skill levels and once evaluated, split participants into teams to play 10 minute games. Several league scouts were on hand to evaluate each player and take specific notes on their strengths as well as areas needing improvement. All games were filmed to help ensure proper player development.

Notable players in attendance included Chris Sharp, 6’6 225, Small forward from the Chico State University, Ben Washington 6’2 185 point guard from Sonoma State University, and Kia King 6’0 180, point guard, from Cal State Fullerton. NorCal Por Camp 2012 MVP went to Aaron Mullet 6’3 point guard from NDNU. He possessed superior ball handling skills, a great jump shot, and a great first step that was able to leave several defenders in the dust. “He definitely has all the tangibles to make it in the NBA, he is a very handworker and able to perform under pressure” says coach Lee.

“We felt there were very few if any camps that represented true Northern California ballers looking to go pro. If you wanted to attend any Pro Camp you would either have to travel to LA or Las Vegas, NV” according to event director, Jay Cooper.

Ben Darling, co-owner of 2-time NorCal ABA champions the Bay Area Matrix said, “This is an official camp where players of all levels are evaluated and critiqued by pro scouts on ball handling, rebounding, court awareness and other skills. Along with game footage each participant receives an evaluation letter detailing their skill level and and areas needing improvement to take them to the next level.” NorCal Pro is full of top quality competition and is an excellent camp for those looking to go pro.
