Santa Clara (August 13, 2014) – The Santa Clara Aquamaids, http://www.aquamaids.org/, founded in 1964, is celebrating its 50th anniversary on August 30th, 2014 at the Santa Clara University Mayer Theater (Santa Clara University Campus, 500 El Camino Real, Santa Clara, CA 95050) starting at 6:45pm. The detail of the event is attached.
Santa Clara Aquamaids will host a historic “look-back” at a half-century of accomplishment and international influence in a theater setting. The event will highlight the past achievements of many of its swimmers and give recognition to many who have contributed to the success of the Aquamaids and to the sport. The club will be encouraging the gathering of all alumni, which includes many international and national medalists. This exciting celebration will also coincide with the ten-year reunion of the U.S. Olympic team that took the “bronze” in the Athens Games of 2004. Seven of the members were Santa Clara Aquamaids.
Santa Clara Aquamaids has been a top ranked synchronized swimming club for five decades. As a non-profit organization, the Aquamaids is mainly supported through parent-volunteer bingo in Santa Clara. In the past 50 years the club has won more national and international medals than any other club in United States. Since the inception of synchronized swimming in the Olympic Games, they have developed over 50 percent of its athletes. The club includes competitive swimmers of all ages and levels. Additionally, they host summer camps across the South Bay Area, and currently have twelve athletes on United States Synchronized Swimming National Teams. This year the nationally ranked athletes competed in Finland and Switzerland. Their next challenge will be the UANA (a competition that features the countries of North and South America) championship in Riverside, and the Comen Cup, which is a highly prestigious competition including top European countries. This competition will take place in Greece from Sept 4th-7th 2014.
