SportStar Of The Week Campolindo Basketball Junior  Haley Van Dyke

For Campolindo Basketball, it wasn’t a matter of what Van Dyke accomplished over the two-week CIF Northern Regional Division III tournament. It may be easier to list the things she didn’t accomplish in leading the Cougars to the their first state finals appearance in 20 years. Through four regional playoff games, the 6-foot post averaged 29 points. Van Dyke also averaged 15.5 rebounds, 3.25 assists, 3.5 steals and 4.25 blocks.

Her biggest game came in the NorCal Regional Final against visiting St. Mary’s-Berkeley. Van Dyke scored a regional finals-record 46 points. She also added 20 rebounds in a 78-56 win over the Panthers on March 18. She shot a sterling 71 percent from the field in that contest. Campolindo (27-7) lost 62-45 to Holy Rosary Academy-Fullerton in the state final, but the Cougars will return every impact player next season. That includes Van Dyke, Ashley Thomas, Grace McGuire, Jessica O’Reilly and Aubrey Wagner.

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

Jordan Brown: Woodcreek-Roseville boys basketball lost 74-67 in the CIF Open Div. state final, but not before its 6-foot-11 junior posted a double-double of 35 points and 17 rebounds. Brown enters the offseason as NorCal’s top recruit for the 2018 class.

McKenna Gregory: Benicia softball’s star two-way talent showcased her dominant circle presence on March 28 with a seven-inning, complete-game shutout of American Canyon. She allowed just three hits, walked one and struck out 16.
