Rising Star
“Sofie Lahane, the 10 year old Sherman Swim School diver, is a rising star of mine”, says Steve Sherman.
This shot (above) was taken over the weekend at Santa Clara International Swim Center where Lahane took 6th place on 3 meter high board and 2nd place on 1 meter low board against a pool of older girls. It was during the Santa Clara Invitational Meet that “The Sofinator” scored big!
About Sophie:
Lahane has been diving for about 2 years now at Sherman Swim School in Lafayette, CA. She was born April 16th, 2008.
She has been a big fan of water and gymnastics since she was small.
But, recalls her mom and #1 fan, Iva, “She never liked swim team or competitive gymnastics until I showed her diving online. Thinking water and gymnastics together might do the trick … for now she is in love with it!”
Iva enthusiastically shares, “She is an amazing diver. I remember she got 1st place in her first-ever meet at Steve’s place (Sherman Swim School), out of 10 girls competing!”
Today Sofie goes to Parkmead elementary school in Walnut Creek where the family also lives, and is going into 5th grade this September.
She loves animals, especially her little crusted gecko “sky”.
And she pretty much “lives” on the trampoline at home, practicing her technique while teaching tricks to her little brother Dominic (5 years old).
Stick with it Sof. We’ll be featuring you in SportStars Magazine soon enough, of that we’re sure!
