FAST BREAKDOWN
At this point, it just doesn’t make sense to release new rankings before the East Bay Athletic League plays its first slate of the week on Tuesdays.
This week, that slate featured No. 3 playing No. 4 , which No. 3 Dougherty Valley-San Ramon won on the road 64-58. It also included then-unranked Monte Vista-Danville upsetting visiting No. 9 De La Salle-Concord 67-60. The first result didn’t change any rankings, but the second one most certainly did.

Monte Vista, which was already in the door-knocking section, debuts at No. 14 this week — becoming the sixth EBAL team inside the Top 20. We’d like to not be talking about this league every week, but it’s making the endeavor awfully difficult. The Mustangs sit right in front of De La Salle, which dropped six spots to No. 15. This Friday, Monte Vista will face No. 10 Dublin and Dougherty Valley will take on No. 9 Granada-Livermore.
Notable changes to teams outside of the Tri-Valley included former No. 20 St. Francis-Mountain View dropping out of the rankings after going 1-2 last week. Oakland dropped two spots from No. 18 to 20, but sticks around one more week since its lone loss from last week was an 89-79 final against San Ramon Valley.
With Monte Vista jumping inside the rankings, there was one new opening in the 5 Teams Knocking section. That spot was taken by Justin-Siena-Napa. While the Braves (15-1) don’t have any wins over ranked teams yet, they are 15-0 against NorCal opponents with a 31.5 point average margin of victory. Every win has been by 12 or more. Justin-Siena’s best win is probably a 64-51 defeat of Serra-San Mateo, which lost to No. 8 Riordan by just two on Tuesday night.
