Let’s meet this week’s nominees:
DE LA SALLE BASEBALL: The Spartans battled their way through a stacked eight-team field to repeat as the CIF Division I NorCal champs. De La Salle topped Franklin-Elk Grove in a nine-inning semifinal before coming from behind to beat NorCal No. 1-ranked Valley Christian-San Jose in an inspirational finish.
HOLLISTER SOFTBALL: Behind ace hurler Sophia Mariottini, the Haybalers proved their Central Coast Open Division title was no fluke by taking home the NorCal Div. I title as well. Hollister closed out the year on a 10-game win streak with six of those wins coming against NorCal-ranked teams (four from inside the Top 5).
CENTRAL CATHOLIC SOFTBALL: Just one week after the Modesto-based Raiders lost to Ponderosa-Shingle Springs 1-0 in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III final, Central Catholic avenged the loss with a 7-0 NorCal-title clinching win over the Bruins. The victory was the program’s 30th of the season.
ST. IGNATIUS BASEBALL: The Wildcats were just 13-11 following an 8-3 loss to Archbishop Mitty-San Jose on May 2. They then proceeded to win seven of their last eight, with the only loss coming against NorCal’s top-ranked Valley Christian-San Jose in the CCS Div. I final. St. Ignatius was placed in Div. II for NorCals and won the championship in a 3-0 road shutout of Casa Grande-Petaluma.
Time to vote for Team of the Week! Get to it.
