South New Jersey MYAA To Hold Youth Championship Football Camp

MYAA Football Camp

Youth athletes in South New Jersey will have the opportunity to work on skills, learn how to work as part of a team, and get comfortable with being on the field in preparation for the upcoming football season. The Medford Youth Athletic Association (MYAA) announced registration is now open for its 2024 youth Shawnee Championship Football Camp.

Set from July 9 to July 11, this three-day camp is to be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Shoprite of Hartford Crossing Fields.

The camp is open for Medford and Medford Lakes students interested in learning the fundamentals of the game or taking their performance to the next level. Athletes who are rising from 2nd grade to 9th grade can attend the youth Championship Football Camp.

The football camp is led by Tim Gushue, known for coaching football for 47 years at Shawnee High School. The past 41 of those years have been spent as the head coach for the Shawnee Renegades team.

Gushue has been decorated as a great coach, being named 6he Brooks-Irvine Coach of the Year in 1992, and 2004 and was named the ’93,’98 & 2004 Coach of the Year by the Burlington County Times. He was also named the Coach of The Year for the Philadelphia Inquirer, Courier Post, and the NJFCA in 2022.

The Renegades have won State Championships in 2002, 2004, 2007,2008, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018, & 2019.

Youth athletes looking to make the State Championships one day will learn a lot from Gushue and the summer football camp. The camp is designed for both beginners and well-seasoned football players. Beginners will learn the general rules of the game, get hands-on instruction, and take part in drills to help them master the basics. Experienced players will get more advanced coaching including more competitive drills. The experience will duplicate situations most encountered at the variety level.

All youth athletes will be broken into small groups based on age, experience, and ability. This is a great way to learn team dynamics and work on team-building skills.

Athletes taking part in MYAA Championship Football Camp need to bring football shoes or running shoes and water bottles.

The cost for the summer football camp is $125. Athletes get a camp t-shirt, and the price includes all camp activities and insurance. The camp is limited to 140 athletes. Parents can register on the MYAA website.
