The Los Angeles Daily News is selecting an Outstanding Senior from each spring sport to honor some of the top student-athletes who didn’t get a chance to complete their final high school season due to COVID-19.

Outstanding Senior: Carson Kuhl, Westlake
Carson Kuhl accomplished what many student-athletes fail to achieve at the end of their high school career: He lived up to the hype.
Before he arrived at Westlake, Kuhl made a name for himself on the club lacrosse circuit. His speed and talent were so exceptional that East Coast college power Johns Hopkins University made an offer to Kuhl before the start of his freshman year.
“It was obvious that he was going to be a special player from the moment he stepped on campus,” Westlake lacrosse coach Peter Swander said. “His ability was clear at the start. The best part about him is that not only is he exceptional on the field, but he’s also hilarious away from the competition. It’s hard to yell at him because he’s so funny.”
Not bad for someone who grew up dreaming of playing in the NFL.
“I played Pop Warner football and was pretty successful at it,” Kuhl said. “In my mind, I thought I was going to play college football and eventually play in the NFL.”

Kuhl made his impact in football and lacrosse at Westlake. On the football field, Kuhl was the team’s leading receiver in 2019 with 1,170 yards and eight touchdowns.
On the lacrosse field, he overcame a back injury suffered his sophomore year to become one of the top midfielders on the West Coast. He capped his junior year by being selected 1st-Team Marmonte League, and he started this season on a scoring tear, averaging 10 points a game.
Kuhl signed to play lacrosse at Yale.
