Last week I started off my blog with a series of questions. This week I have only one. What do you want?

Behaviorists, psychologists and those scholars who study human behavior have said that when you put your mind to something, there is nothing that will stop you from getting it.

I am not sure what your thoughts are on this hypothesis, but I tend to agree.

It is this same human behavior that propels most everyone – from the Wright Brothers and their desire to fly, to Mark Zuckerberg and his goal to connect people with each other. And what we get from his drive is, of course, Facebook. What did the Wright Brothers get us? Oh ya… modern flight!

As hard as it may be for some of us to commit to writing down our dreams, it is even more challenging for us to set goals around the things we want.

However, after we acknowledge that it is hard, history and data tells us that achieving dreams and realizing goals have happened since the dawn of civilization. And are best when committed (in modern day, to paper).

Ancient Egypt’s pyramids. The epitome of "put your mind to something" commitment.

So, it all starts with you asking yourself one question, “What do you want?”

If you really want to go get those things you want, (like becoming a be a better athlete), you need someone to coach you up – and help you plan.

After all, what makes a performance or improvement coach like myself necessary? Is it is not in our nature to think and plan out our dreams? Sometimes it’s structure and encouragement that propels us to achieve our goal.

Put your mind to something and you’ll get it! Simple, but not easy.

Our human nature would prefer us to think about an idea and then have it happen for us.

We hire coaches for many reasons, including to improve our skill set, to help us examine our attitudes, to build our confidence, to create structure and good habits.

If you consider those reasons, would you think that I’m talking about a sport… or life? Coaching takes into account the gestalt.

To perform at a high level on the field, as in life, a person must have confidence.

When great discoveries were being made by people like Thomas Edison, who failed hundreds of times on his way to greatness, it was his confidence that kept him trying.

Coaches help people gain the confidence necessary for high performance over a long period through practice and repetition. Commit to your goals and there’s just no stopping you.

“When you know what you want, and you want it badly enough, you will find a way to get it.” – Jim Rohn

There’s no stopping us when we put our mind to a thing; dream it and plan for it!

Be Blessed.
