FAST BREAKDOWN

We had a slight shuffle at the top and slight shuffle at the bottom — and every one in the middle held firm. For the second straight week, the No. 4 team fell when Riordan-S.F. lost 67-64 in a West Catholic Athletic League showdown with Serra-San Mateo. The win vaulted the Padres into the rankings at No. 18, right behind No. 17 Mitty which they’ll visit on Jan. 19. On the other side, Riordan’s full resume and their previous win over Branson meant a drop of just one spot for now. The Crusaders will need a spotless third week of January in order to stay in the Top 5.

Bishop O’Dowd, which remains unbeaten against California opponents, inherits the No. 4 ranking. The Dragons will have their opportunity to show they belong on MLK Day when they take on No. 1 Salesian. Our next rankings won’t appear until Tuesday next week, so all MLK games can be factored.
