NorCal Wrestling Rankings, Wrestling Team RankingsAll year, SportStars will align the best of each weight class, and the top teams in Northern California into lists of the 15 best.

The individual rankings will fluctuate as the season progresses. See someone out of place? Did we spell a name wrong or miss a head-to-head result? Let us know in the comment section below.

ON THE RISE: Mother Lode League sophomores

Check out these big time performances by small town wrestlers. Kodiak Stephens, a sophomore at Bret Harte-Angels Camp, was just 1-1 at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Championships as a freshman last year. He’s already making moves in the 170-pound weight class by beating NorCal No. 6 Evan Myrtue (El Capitan-Merced) and No. 11 Andrew Reese (Vista de Lago-Folsom) at the Curt Mettler Invite. Stephens also placed at the elite Zinkin Classic a week later.

At Calaveras, 182-pound sophomore Donivan Giangregorio won the Marty Manges Tournament at Casa Roble, also beating a two-match winner at last year’s state tourney, former NorCal No. 3 Kyle West (Oak Ridge-El Dorado Hills). From unranked to No. 5, Giangregorio made the biggest leap of any wrestler in this release.

WHAT TO WATCH

Results from the Zinkin Classic and Reno TOC greatly impacted these rankings. The Sierra Nevada Classic in Reno and the Pat Lovell Holiday Classic in Aptos were also big events for ranked wrestlers. Up this weekend is the Doc Buchanan at Clovis, the Joe Rios Memorial Tournament in Chico and the Apple Cider Classic in Watsonville. The action is everywhere.
