Bay Area vs. SJS Football: Top 5 Games

TOP 5 BAY AREA vs. SAC-JOAQUIN GAMES SINCE 2009

  De La Salle-Concord 49, Folsom 15 (12/8/12)
Much-hyped and highly-anticipated game was the first Open Division Regional bowl game to determine the NorCal berth to the CIF State Bowl. Folsom entered with a 14-0 record and a desire to show Sacramento football could compete with the best, but the Spartans showed the Bulldogs that they were still the undisputed top program in NorCal.

  Pittsburg 28, Granite Bay 27, OT (9/21/12)
The Pirates’ Jamal Lockett scored a TD and converted a 2-point play to end a physical game that had both teams drained. The loss dropped the Grizzlies to 1-3, but head coach Ernie Cooper’s team would rattle off 13 straight wins, culminated by a 21-20 win over Long Beach Poly in the CIF Div. I State Bowl game in Carson. Cooper resigned before the start of the 2013 season, making this narrow defeat the last mark in the “L” column for the coach.
SOUNDBITE: “As a defense we felt we didn’t win it for our offense and that really sparked us … From that loss on we were a team that nobody wanted to see. Our defense became so advanced we never showed the same defense twice … There was no stopping us.” “” Aaron Knapp, Granite Bay defensive back

  Folsom 49, Deer Valley-Antioch 46 (9/16/11)
Trailing 46-41 and facing a 4th-and-15 with 1:35 remaining in the game, Folsom quarterback Tanner Trosin hit J’Juan Muldrow for a 35-yard TD strike to win a wild shootout in Antioch. The scoring strike also gave Trosin a NorCal record of 597 yards passing en route to setting a California record for passing yards (5,185) and total yards (6,364) in a season.
SOUNDBITE: “I can still remember that game like it was yesterday. We were just taking shots at each other in a back-and-forth game, and we were able to win on a miracle play. Tanner threw the perfect ball, and JJ played played the ball perfect to get us the win.” “” Kris Richardson, Folsom coach

  Serra-San Mateo 36, Buhach Colony-Atwater 35 (9/20/12)
Buhach Colony fought back from a 14-point deficit to lead 35-28 in the fourth quarter, but the Thunder could not stop Padres’ running back Eric Redwood. The senior back scored his fourth TD of the night with less than 30 seconds left and powered in for the game-winning two-point conversion. Buhach Colony had a game-clinching interception by Jahce Webster nullified by a penalty on Serra’s final drive.

  Whitney-Rocklin 42, Concord 40 (9/3/10)
In the season-opener for both teams, the Wildcats’ Connor Riordan intercepted Concord quarterback Ricky Lloyd’s pass attempt on a two-point try that would have tied the game with 1:43 remaining. Lloyd passed for 349 yards in the game and hit Brandon Pham for a score to pull within two points. The Minutemen would not lose another game in the 2010 season, winning 13 straight, including a come-from-behind win in the NCS Div. II final.
