Capistrano Unified postpones start of sports

The Capistrano Unified School District postponed the start of high school sports.

High school athletics were scheduled to begin Monday, July 6 with practices and summer camps. Interscholastic sports and practices were shut down this past spring because of the spread of COVID-19.

The district informed its high school athletic directors on Friday that the start of high school sports this summer has been postponed indefinitely.

High schools in the Capistrano Unified district that participate in CIF Southern Section sports are Aliso Niguel, Capistrano Valley, Dana Hills, San Clemente, San Juan Hills and Tesoro.

Capistrano Valley athletic director Chad Addison expects the district will elaborate on the situation soon, perhaps this week.
