For The Second Straight Week, All 20 Teams In The NorCal Football Rankings Manage To Hold On To A Spot After Some Shuffling In The Lower Half •
Despite a couple of key matchups within the NorCal Football Rankings, Week 4 didn’t end up being quite the storm we might have predicted.
The No. 4 vs. No. 3 matchup between Pittsburg and Folsom wound up being as competitive as you might have expected, with third-ranked Folsom using defense and special teams to hang on for a 23-15 win. It wasn’t necessarily a clean game for Pittsburg, but their win over Liberty-Henderson (Nev.) is still better than any win No. 5 St. Mary’s-Stockton has posted through four games. Therefore, the Pirates hang on to No. 4 for at least another week or two.
In fact, each of the Top 11 hung on to their spots for the week, and the shuffling started at No. 12. That’s because previous No. 12 Menlo-Atherton had a rough showing in its road game at former No. 18 Del Oro-Loomis. The Golden Eagles delivered a convincing 42-13 win to improve to 5-0 and jumped four spots to No. 14. Meanwhile, Menlo-Atherton dropped six spots to No. 18.

We chose to keep the Bears in the rankings due to the fact that they will face No. 6 Wilcox-Santa Clara this Friday. We didn’t want to be the ones that punted them from the ranks on the off chance they go and beat our No. 6 team on the road.
Other movement occurred as a result of Menlo-Atherton’s fall and Del Oro’s rise. Monterey Trail-Elk Grove is now at its high water mark for the season after reaching No. 12, and Los Gatos climbed four spots to No. 13 prior to its big showdown Friday against Sacred Heart Prep-Atherton (3-1).
Now onto this week’s NorCal Football Rankings.
