In an attempt to bring new features to SportStarsMag.com for the upcoming school year and beyond, we’re using the month of the 2022-23 sports calendar to debut a weekly voting contest to name the #SportSquad NorCal Team Of The Week.

Windsor Baseball claimed the honor of being the first #SportSquad last Friday, earning the honor for the opening week of May in which it went 2-1 with a walk-off win over previously-undefeated Cardinal Newman-Santa Rosa. The three-day vote also included NCS girls swimming champion Carondelet-Concord, Central Coast Section boys swimming champion Palo Alto, and the NorCal No. 1-ranked softball team, St. Francis-Mountain View.

Windsor won with more than 50 percent of the vote.

The Jaguars were unable to pull off a second upset of Cardinal Newman in the North Bay League Championship game on May 12, falling just one run shy in a 4-3 defeat. Windsor still finished the regular season with an 18-7 record and was awarded the No. 2 seed to the NCS Div. II playoffs that begin May 17. The Jags will host El Cerrito (14-6-1).

Windsor has built its success around a very balanced lineup. The Jaguars have at least six players with 16 or more hits, led by senior Brayden Colletto with 24. There’s also at least six players with 10 or more RBI. Senior Elijah Hackathorn leads that group with 24. Nine different players have scored at 10 runs (Colletto leads with 24) and 11 have at least one double.

The team’s senior-dominated pitching staff carries a team-wide 2.31 ERA with a 2:1 strikeout to walk ratio. Opponents have batted just .201 against Jags pitching.

Carson Dillon is the ace of the staff with an 8-0 record and 1.43 ERA. He’s struck out 57 and allowed just 12 earned runs over 58.2 innings of work. Jaxon Leo is second on the staff in both workload (40.2 IP) and wins (4) while also having one of the team’s two saves.
