Simone Biles Makes History At Olympic Gymnastics Trials

Simone Biles Makes History At U.S. Women’s Olympic Gymnastics Trials

Simone Biles came, saw, conquered at the 2024 U.S. Women’s Olympic Gymnastics Trials over the weekend.

Simone Biles qualified for her third Olympics after crowned the top all-around gymnast at the Trials this past weekend.

Biles made history at the U.S. Olympic Gymnastic Trials held in Minneapolis on Saturday and Sunday. She is the only gymnast to win nine U.S. all-around titles. At age 27, she is also the oldest female gymnast to represent the U.S.

She nailed each of her events—even on the uneven bars— which is known to be her weakest event. Her uneven bars score was 14.65.

At her first floor exercises routine, Biles rocketed into the air 12 feet.

Biles did take a fall on her landing at the vault, but still scored the best with 15.8. She also didn’t perform as well on the balance beam, wobbling a bit and almost fell off. She came in fifth place in the event—even though she is the four-time champion in the event. While her skillset may seem superhuman, Biles is still human.

However, Biles’ performances and skill difficulties still make her the greatest gymnast of all time. She showed the world she still has what it takes to be an Olympian after withdrawing from the 2021 Tokyo Olympics citing mental health issues after suffering from the “twisties.”

She is set to compete in women’s gymnastics competitions at the 2024 Paris Olympics which begins on July 26.
