The Nike Portland XC meet came and went this Saturday, but what it left in its wake was an impressive set of wins on both the boys and girls sides of the Danner Championships races.
Hanne Thomsen of Montgomery Highschool in Santa Rosa CA, won the girls’ Danner Championship race in dominating form, winning by just under 50 seconds ahead of 2nd place, while also setting a new blazing fast 5k PR, running 16:49.2, her first time under 17. Thomson, a sophomore, came off an amazing freshman year season, winning the Division 3 State title in cross and the 3200m title for track. Thomsen likely set out for this meet to find some bigger competition, but alas even through the first mile it was just her vs the clock, as she led every split of the race, coming through the first mile 3 seconds ahead of second place and never looking back. On the team side, Oregon powerhouse Summit HS from Bend won with 110 points to second place Rancho Cucamonga’s 135. Summit had two girls finish in the top ten of their race.
