Aviana Cavaiola, a junior, scored three goals, to go along with six saves from senior goalkeeper Lucia Vega of top-seeded La Jolla, as they contributed to the Vikings producing a 13-9 girls water polo victory Feb. 28 against second-seeded La Serna in the CIF Southern California Regional Division 2 championship at the Monte Nitzkowski Aquatics Center on the campus of Long Beach City College.

La Jolla won the second Division 2 regional crown in program history, the first coming in 2022. The Vikings joined San Clemente as the only programs to secure multiple Division 2 regional titles, with La Jolla becoming the first CIF-San Diego Section program in any division to win a pair of regional championships.

Mater Dei, Orange Lutheran and Laguna Beach are the other CIF-Southern Section programs to achieve multiple regional girls water polo titles since the event was first contested in 2018.

The Vikings held La Serna scoreless in the fourth quarter to secure the championship.

Senior teammates Ava Flores and Avery Kozicki combined for seven goals for La Serna.

Flores had a match-high six goals, with Kozicki also scoring for La Serna, which advanced to the first Division 2 regional final in program history.
