Mater Dei turns away Orange Lutheran to capture second CIF-Southern Section Open Division boys soccer title

Santiago Barros Schelotto and Isaih Covarrubias Macias scored first-half goals for second-seeded Mater Dei in a 2-0 boys soccer victory against No. 8 Orange Lutheran in the CIF-Southern Section Open Division championship Feb. 28 at Fred Kelly Stadium in Orange.

Mater Dei captured its second Open title in three years and secured the seventh section crown in program history.

Nate Enriquez recorded six saves for the Monarchs, who became the first boys team win a pair of Open Division championships.

Jacob Aguilar had four saves for Orange Lutheran, which reached its third section final in the past four seasons, including its first appearance in the Open Division championship match. The Lancers won the Division 4 crown in 2023 and lost to Servite in the Division 1 final last year.
