Reno Tahoe is about to become the hub for national volleyball competition this spring. Starting with the Northern California Volleyball Association (NCVA) Far Western National Qualifier, April is packed with four weekends of matches as nearly 2,000 teams total head to Nevada this month.
Kicking off the four consecutive weekends of girls’ elite volleyball at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center is the Far Western National Qualifier on April 10-12, followed by the second weekend from April 17-19, and then April 24-26. Tournaments are for players ages 11 to 18 across multiple divisions.
It is there that teams will compete for bids to the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championships. It also serves as an opportunity for individual athletes to showcase their skills to college coaches and recruiters in attendance.
“This tournament is about opening doors,” said Dr. Nicole Annaloro, Executive Director/Commissioner of the NCVA. “Athletes come here with goals of playing at the next level, and this event gives them the exposure and platform to make that happen.”
These three weekends are then followed by the USA Volleyball Girls 18s Junior National Championship held on May 1-3.
With close to 2,000 teams participating in the spring season in Reno, these events have seen more than 20% increase year over year as volleyball continues to rise in popularity.
“Reno Tahoe is built to host events like this,” said Mike Larragueta, President and CEO of Visit Reno Tahoe. “From our all-in-one convention center to easy airport access and a wide range of accommodations, we make it simple for teams and families to focus on what matters most––competing and enjoying the experience.”
With a great downtown area and one of the best outdoor recreation spots near the venue, Reno Tahoe is proving to be a great location to host the top talent in the sport to continue to put volleyball on the map.
