At just 16 years old, Quincy Wilson has already established himself as one of the brightest young talents in track and field. He can now add USATF Youth Athlete of the Year to his running accomplishments.
USATF announced its end-of-the-year award winners on Thursday, naming Wilson its youth recipient. Also adding to the list of Athlete of Year winners are Gabby Thomas, Grant Holloway, Joanna Hayes, Nora Cary, and Neringa Jakstiene, as well as Dwight Phillips who will receive the 2024 USATF Legacy Award.
The athletes will be honored at the 2024 USATF Night of Legends on Saturday, December 7 in Orlando, Florida.
Wilson had a stand-out year, his exceptional performances capturing national attention.
Wilson’s standout moment of 2024 came when she broke the world U18 record in the 400-meter three times. Wilson first broke the record with a 44.66 in the heats at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials and then again in the semifinal with a 44.59. He then broke the record again, with his 44.20 win at the Holloway Invitational in Gainesville, Florida in July.
While he fell short of competing at the Paris Olympics individually, he was selected as part of the 4×400 relay team, helping the team qualify for finals. Wilson is the youngest ever men’s track and field gold medalist for Team USA.
Wilson’s success in 2024 is a testament to his work ethic and the support of his coaches and family. The high school junior was previously named the Gatorade Player of the Year.
Wilson’s recognition as USATF Youth Athlete of the Year is a well-deserved honor that celebrates his remarkable achievements and serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes nationwide.
