Strava Launches New AI Feature To Help Runners Improve Race Time

The popular running app Strava is tapping into the power of artificial intelligence and machine learning to help runners elevate their race day performance.

Strava announced the launch of its Performance Prediction feature that identifies estimated finish times for race distances for the 5-kilometer, 10k, half marathon, and marathon.

To make these personalized predictions, the app uses its Athlete Intelligence, and AI-driven feature to evaluate more than 100 data points based on past workouts including the user’s pace, heart rate, elevation, power, and Strava’s Relative Effort metric. It even takes into account rest days.

Performance Predictions are updated in real-time after each run, providing clear and understandable insights to reveal distance and pace times based on current fitness level. Runners can then ensure they are on track to meet their race goals, such as improving time to get their next PR.

Along with allowing runners to make sure they are meeting their goals or maintaining their fitness, the new feature helps identify progress to build confidence. It also serves as a great motivational tool to stay consistent with training plans.

Strava’s Performance Predictions help athletes race smarter, train better, and understand progress without confusing data. The feature is only available for subscribers. Runners will need the paid version of the app to unlock these insights.
