Round One of the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association Jr World Qualifier

Blustering Winds didn’t stop the Juniors today in Round One of the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association (HSJGA) Junior World Qualifier played on the Ka’anapali Kai Course (LAHAINA, HI)““ The Hawaiian Wind God, Paka’a was in full force for the 137 kids competing in the first round of the Junior World Qualifier on the Ka’anapali Kai Golf Course today. With gusts of up to 30 mph, the Kai Course played much longer than it traditionally plays and tested the strength of some of Hawaii’s top junior golfers.
PJ Samiere of Kailua leads the Boys 15-18 Division with his 71 (+1), just one stroke ahead of Kyosuke Kevin Hara of Honolulu (72). For the Girls 15-18 Division, Allisen Corpuz holds the lead with +3 (73), just two strokes ahead of Eimi Koga (both of Honolulu).
In the Boys 13-14 Division, Andrew Chin shot one over, 71 and has a one stroke lead over Kyle Suppa (both of Honolulu). Mariel Galdiano of Pearl City shot 73 (+3) and is the leader in the Girls 13-14 Division after round one, four shots ahead of Hana Furuichi and Rose Huang (both of Honolulu) who are T2 at 77.
The second round will be played on the Ka’anapali Kai Course ““ tee times start at 7:00am on Sunday. Division Qualifiers earn a spot in the Callaway Junior World Championships to be played at Torrey Pines in San Diego July 10-13, 2012.

The Pepsi/Titan Little People’s Golf Tournament was played concurrently with the first round of the Junior World Qualifier. The Pepsi/Titan qualifiers will advance to the Pepsi Titan Little People’s Golf Championship in Quicy, Illinois June 18-20, 2012.
