CIF Open Division runner-up Woodcreek was never budging from the top spot, but deciding what to do with state-champions St. Patrick-St. Vincent and Mission-S.F. was a bit tougher. We had the Bruins one spot ahead of the Bears before the state finals, and chose to keep it that way — bumping each up two spots. We didn’t push them above Dublin, however, because the Gaels owned a win over Monte Vista — a team which both state champs lost to. In the Open Div. era, it’s awful hard to place a Divisional state champ over a team which lost in the Open regionals. Capital Christian was the lone Open Div. team which dropped in the rankings (and they nearly upset Woodcreek). However, the Cougars’ overall resume was slightly weaker than the other Open teams (hence their No. 8 seed in that field).
