Does anybody remember Wondo? Ahem, ya! Chris Wondolowski, the San Jose Earthquakes star forward is a product of local soccer clubs – this one in fact, Diablo FC. Wondo went on to play at De LaSalle before getting to the professional ranks and was a scoring sensation at the 2015 World Cup. Likewise Jade Rafallo started with Diablo FC as an U10 player. Now playing U17 she is a standout and comitted to Portland State University soccer. That might not be the fate of every kid playing soccer, but local clubs like DFC are an excellent launching pad.

Like Pop Warner for football and Little League Baseball, soccer clubs abound – in the East Bay alone there are several including Heritage, Walnut Creek SC, San Ramon SC and Dublin United, Ajax out in Brentwood, West Coast SC in Tracy, and the list goes on. From beging play to skill improvement clinics to premiere leagues, soccer has experienced tremendous growth and success throughout the country. According to the American Youth Soccer Organization, (AYSO) there are 500,000 players in over 850 community programs nationwide.
