Franklin-Elk Grove – Senior – Wrestling
Joey Banks isn’t just a football star. For those who know the Franklin-Elk Grove senior as a Sacramento State football commit should quickly realize he is a force on the wrestling mat as well.
Banks defeated Erik Medina of Jesuit- Carmichael 4-2 for the 195-pound Sac-Joaquin Section Masters championship Saturday at Stockton Arena. Banks heads into the CIF state meet with a 25-0 record and is serious dark horse contender for the state title.
IN HIS OWN WORDS: “After winning that (Masters) title, I’m speechless. I am definitely going into state with a chip on my shoulder. But I feel like (other wrestlers) will be surprised with the quickness that I have.”
WHAT YOU DIDN’T KNOW: Even the best put their shoes on one foot at a time. Banks says he always waits until his name is called before he puts on his wrestling shoes before a match. And while he is warming up, Banks most certainly has game, but his song of choice is “No Games” by Rick Ross.
