Muir Orthopedic Opens Its Walnut Creek Doors For High School Sports Physicals On July 27; Pre-Registration Required •
It’s mid-July, which means high school athletes will be returning to practice in as little as three weeks. Which means it’s time for Muir Orthopedic Specialists to host their annual, free Pass To Play event.
This is the seventh year that the Muir staff will welcome high school and college athletes to its offices at 2625 Shadelands Dr. in Walnut Creek. This year’s pre-participation evaluations will take place on July 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“A lot of kids have an active relationship with their pediatrician and should be having annual physicals and receiving their pre-participation clearance there,” Muir Orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist Chales F. Preston said in an email exchange. “We however are very proud to offer this resource for kids who may not have that relationship and/or have a hard time getting into a physician’s office.”
All athletes are welcome. However, they are required to pre-register for the event. A registration form that needs to be printed, filled-out and brought with the athlete, can be downloaded here.
The cost is $30, which Muir Orthopedic Specialists generously donates back to the schools of each participating athlete. To date, the event has generated more than $26,000 for local athletic programs.
Optional baseline concussion screening and cardiac screening is also offered. Copies of the exams are sent to each student’s personal physician.
“Every year there are a handful of kids that we come across who may be in need of some sort of advanced pediatric or orthopedic care. We help refer them along accordingly,” Preston said.
More information can be found on the Muir Orthopedic Specialists website. For further information about the event, contact the Muir Orthopedic Specialists Sports Medicine Line at 925-210-8539.
