America’s Got Talent Team and 2013 National Champions Wow Walnut Creek crowds with Annual Fall Swim Show!

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. ““ Over 200 athletes, coaches and parent volunteers collaborated for the 44th season to put on Walnut Creek Aquanuts Fall Synchronized Swimming Show over Labor Day Weekend.  Aquanuts Fall Show Tradition started in Walnut Creek in 1968 at Larkey Park pool before the Clarke Memorial Swim Center at Heather Farm Park opened.

This year’s theme was “Into the Abyss”, and the nightly crowds of 600 plus witnessed WCA athletes transform themselves into mermaids, pirates, jellyfish, sharks, clown fish, and lobsters.

The show is created over a 2 month period as coaches choreograph and customize routines based on highlights from the competitive season. The athletes trained 4 hours a day and more to be sure they perfected their routines, all while winding down the summer and beginning their school year. In addition, 100’s of parent volunteer hours were spent building the glittering 3-D stage (designed by Porro Grafik), re-purposing the intricate costumes, and finessing all of the administrative and on-site details involved in producing a 2 hour show/event.

Head Coach Kim stated, “This show is our number one community outreach effort and it does not disappoint. It is a fundraising and recruiting tool, but also a way to entertain and thank the community for all the support they provide us throughout the year.”

One notable highlight was the rendition of the teams “America’s Got Talent” performance to Rihanna’s “Diamonds in the Sky,” performed in high heels. Kim Probst thanked the Walnut Creek community for their overwhelming support of the team during the journey to the America’s Got Talent Finals this year.

In addition to many high level athletic and artistic performances, audience hearts were won over by the large group of young trainees for whom this was their first synchro performance, as well as by a routine performed (in drag) by the swimmers fathers also known as the “Aqua Pops.”.

The club was honored to host VIP guests Mayor Pro Tem Kristina Lawson, representatives from the Walnut Creek City Council, and our sponsor The Sports Basement, as well as Myriam Glez, a former Olympian and current High Performance Director of USA Synchro.
