It can be overwhelming playing with some of the nation’s best players at maybe the premier baseball exhibition in the country. It’s another thing to perform at top level with big league scouts watching your every move. But that didn’t stop Christy from enjoying a great first-time experience at the Area Code Baseball Games Aug. 5-10 in Long Beach. He was named to the New Balance All-Area Code team.

SportStars Magazine: How was your experience at the Area Code Games?

Francis Christy: It was the first time I’d ever been down there. All the scouts that were there was insane and the competition was great. It was a pretty good experience.

SSM: How will being on the All-Area Code Team help you next season?

FC: It kinda told me where I was compared to other catchers there. … It kinda told me what areas of my game I need to work on.

SSM: What do you like most about catching?

FC: I guess the part where you can be the leader. … You need to point out blind spots on the field and see everything. So you basically need to tell everyone where to go and it’s just a fun position.

SSM: Last season didn’t end well losing to rival Petaluma in the NCS quarterfinals. Can you guys make it to the NCS final this year?

FC: Definitely. All of us returning players, we’re working a lot harder. It was pretty devastating actually. We all have a fire right now that we want to come back and win it.
