The SportStars All-City Team is an awards program conducted by the magazine and presented by the Sacramento River Cats. Athletes were chosen through nominations and accomplishments throughout the 2016-17 season. Selections had to be from schools that resided within a 60-mile radius of Sacramento. Here are each of the honorees for boys soccer. S
SportStars All-City PLAYER OF THE YEAR:
Spencer Hoyle, Folsom
The Bulldogs’ senior led the team with 19 goals and added 9 assists as Folsom reached the No. 1 ranking in the state during its undefeated season.
Erik Mattice, Folsom
Senior captain was the Bulldogs’ free kick specialist and tallied 12 goals and 9 assists.
RJ Moorhouse, Cosumnes Oaks
Wolfpack’s senior scored 30 goals and added 10 assists to lead the program to its second consecutive SJS Div. II championship.
Andrew Covert, Cosumnes Oaks
The senior scored 17 goals and assisted on 3 others to help the Wolfpack win its third section title in four years.
Andrew Ratto, Folsom
The junior captain anchored a Bulldogs’ defense that allowed just 9 goals in 21 games and posted 13 shutouts.
Jack Sauls, Jesuit
Marauders’ junior led the SJS Div. I champions with 11 goals.
Matthias Milton, Jesuit
Sophomore goalkeeper recorded 14 clean sheets as the Marauders won their SJS-best 12th section title.
Lucas Churchill, Jesuit
The senior midfielder had 7 goals and 6 assists, including a goal and an assist in the SJS Div. I final.
Andres Cuevas, Lincoln
The Fighting Zebras’ senior captain scored 8 goals and assisted his teammates on 16 others from his midfield position.
Daniel Sanabia, Lincoln
Senior goalie had 17 wins in the net and posted a 0.4 goals against average.
Francisco Comparan, Sheldon
Huskies’ senior was one of the top scorers in Div. I, finishing the season with 19 goals and 11 assists.
Mateo Pasqua, West Campus
The Warriors’ sophomore striker found the net 26 times and assisted on 12 goals for the SJS Div. V champions.
Noah Robinson, West Campus
Junior forward scored 17 goals and added 6 assists for the section Div. V champion Warriors.
Pedro Peixe, Ponderosa
Bruins’ senior had a team-best 13 goals.
Bert Santana, Ponderosa
Midfielder scored 12 goals and assisted on 5 more for the Bruins.
Kody Madore, Vista del Lago
One of the Eagles’ captains, the senior anchored the defense for the SJS Div. III semifinalists.
Tanner Boyea, Vista del Lago
Junior was the leading scorer for the Eagles as they advanced to the section Div. III semis for the second straight season.
Dylan Reisig, Sacramento Waldorf
The senior forward scored 29 goals and added 16 assists in his final high school season, and finished his career with 51 goals and 38 assists.
Rodrigo Garcia, Highlands
Scots’ junior led the team with 22 goals and assisted teammates on 4 more.
Edgardo Gutierrez, Natomas
Senior midfielder was the Nighthawks’ leading goal-scorer.
