AROUND THE HORN

We’re going to call this with Redemption Week, as several teams who had slipped in last week’s NorCal Baseball Rankings rebounded with strong performances. A handful of them even returned to their original spots.

Most notably, a pair of former Top 5 teams are back in the top quadrant as Archbishop Mitty-San Jose used a 3-0 week-plus to climb three spots to No. 3, and De La Salle won four of five to jump four spots back to No. 5. The Spartans only loss in that stretch was a 3-2 defeat to No. 16 Dublin. (That win bumped the Gaels up a few spots as well, despite losses to No. 12 Granada-Livermore and No. 14 Foothill-Pleasanton.)

Foothill was another team that showed a nice rebound after slipping all the way to No. 17. The Falcons picked up two wins over Dublin and had an extra-inning loss to Granada. One other East Bay Athletic League team moved up this week, as San Ramon Valley is back in the Top 10 after winning three straight.

St. Mary’s-Stockton continues to be the Sac-Joaquin Section’s hottest team. The Rams are 9-1 in April and have won seven straight. The only loss was the Boras Classic semifinal to No. 2 Cardinal Newman-Santa Rosa.

St. Mary’s isn’t even leading its own league, however. That honor is owned by Lodi, which is the lone team to debut in the rankings this week. The Flames jump in at No. 15 after winning two out of three against former-No. 14 Lincoln-Stockton. They also won two against St. Mary’s at the end of March.
