Quincy Wilson set the U18 world record at the U.S. Track & Field Trials in Eugene, Oregon. He is expected to be formally announced as a member of Team USA to compete in the 4×400 relay during the 2024 Summer Games in Paris. And now he is the recipient of the Gatorade Maryland Boys Track & Field Play of the Year.

The Gatorade Player of the Year award is a major honor, as it celebrates the achievements of the top high school athletes in the U.S. noted for their sports performance, academics, and community involvement.

Olympic Debut: Quincy Wilson Is Youngest Male U.S. Runner For Team USA

Wilson, a sophomore at Bullis School in Maryland, set the U18 world record with a time of 44.59 seconds in the semifinals at the U.S. Track & Field Olympic Trials this June. Unfortunately, he finished in sixth place with 44.94 at the finals, not qualifying for the event in the 2024 Olympics.

However, Wilson is still expected to make his Olympic debut. He is to make history by becoming the youngest male U.S. track & field Olympian at 16 years old when selected to run on the men’s 4×400 relay in the Paris Olympics. This announcement that Wilson did make Team USA was confirmed by Wilson’s coach Joe Lee, although it won’t be formally announced until July 8.

Wilson also broke the New Balance Nationals meet record in the 400m with his finish time of 45.13 and earned All-American honors. He also set his personal best time time of 1:50.44 in the 800. At the Beach Run Invitational in April.

He is ranked number 29 among prep boys as of this spring and named the Washington Post’s 2024 All-Met Athlete of the Year for boys track.

Wilson also excelled off the track. He maintained an A average in school as he entered his junior year at Bullis School this fall.

Wilson joins the roster of Maryland Boys Track & Field Players of the Year that includes Tinoda Matsatsa (2022-23, St. Andrew’s Episcopal School), Judson Lincoln IV (2021-22, Oakland Mills High School), Baidy Ba (2020-21, Oakland Mills High School) and Ashton Allen (2019-20, Bullis School).

Other track and field stars awarded the Gatorade Player of the Year award include Sadie Englehardt.
