Josiah Tostenson is no stranger to winning. Coming out of an impressive 2024 track and field season that includes his number four national ranking in the 1500m, the rising senior was just named Gatorade’s top track and field star in Oregon.

Gatorade announced Josiah Tostenson is the recipient of the 2023-24 Gatorade Oregon Boys Track & Field Player of the Year. The rising senior is the first athlete from Crater High School to win this award. The Gatorade Player of the Year award celebrates the top track and field athletes across the U.S. who had top performances both on and off the field.

At the 2024 Class 5A State Meet in May, Tostenson won first place in both the 1500m with a time of 3:50.92 and the 3000m with the finish time of 8:12.94. He also ran the anchor leg of the 4×400 relay in 3:27.26 to help the Comets finish second at the meet.

Tostenson was part of the Oregon Distance Project club team to set a new national high school record in the distance medley at the New Balance National Championships held at Franklin Field in Philadelphia in June 2024. The boys Brooke a 23-year record in the 4000-meter relay, with a combined time of 9:44.30.

Also part of his impressive year was his win in the 800m at the March 2024 Crater Classic Track Twilight. He set a personal record in the event with 1:54.68.

Tostenson also set another personal record, this time in the 3200-meter event, at the 2024 Arcadia Invitational in April with a finish time of 8:39.89.

He also performs well in school by maintaining a B average. He also shows great character by volunteering at local youth running camps and clinics. He also is the primary caretaker of his father who suffers from Parkinson’s Disease.

Tostenson joins a list of impressive track and field athletes in the Gatorade Player of the Year honor that includes Olympic teen Quincy Wilson and Sadie Engelhardt.
