The summer outdoors beach volleyball Caribbean Challenge is sadly coming to an end. But not before youth volleyball players have the chance to compete in one last tournament.
The Northern California Volleyball Association (NCVA) is hosting the Sand & Serve beach volleyball tournament on August 31.
Held at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, registration for the Sand & Serve tournament ends on Monday, August 26. The tournament is open for boys in the 11/12, 13/14, 15/16, 17./18 divisions, and girls in the 11/12, 13, 14, 15, and 16 divisions.
Check-in for Saturday’s Sand & Serve beach volleyball tournament begins at 8 a.m. and will close at 8:50 a.m. The first serve promptly begins at 9 a.m.
To participate in the last NCVA tournament of the summer, players must be members of the NCVA. Those who aren’t members have the exception to join at a low $26 summer membership fee. Only one player is required to register and pay. There is a two-player team maximum.
The Sand & Serve tournament costs $100 per team.
Teams do not need a uniform to compete in the tournament, but matching colored clothes are recommended. Athletes must wear a full top, with girls not exposing their midsection when standing. Spandex shorts or leggings suffice for bottoms.
NCVA provides an easy-to-follow guide on how to register for the tournament on its website.
The Sand & Serve beach tournament is the fourth and final event in the summer series. Things kicked off on June 1 for boys and June 8 for girls with the Caribbean Challenge, followed by the Caribbean Challenge 2 on June 23, and the Caribbean Challenge 3 on July 6.
This outdoor tournament is a great way for local volleyball players to celebrate the end of the summer sports season.

The NCVA is a California-based nonprofit that supports sand volleyball talent. Its programs help to be a pipeline for youth athletes looking to make it to the elite level of the sport in the future. However, the NCVA supports junior players of all skill levels.
Following the Sand & Serve tournament is the start of the 2024/2025 Boys Power League kicks off on September 14 and 15 with the Power League Qualifiers. Clubs can enter through September 3.
