The Castro Valley United Yellow Under 16 girls soccer team traveled to Roseville for their first tournament of the 2016 season and returned with the Silver Cup of victory. Displaying an outstanding overall team effort throughout the tournament, United won the tournament on penalty kicks after playing to a hard fought 2-2 tie in the Sunday afternoon Championship game versus the Folsom Red team, a very good team ranked 74 places higher than United in the statewide rankings. In their preliminary games on Saturday United thrashed the American River Freedom 5-0 and the Sonoma Elite 3-2. While dominating their Sunday morning game versus the Elk Grove Platinum, the Castro Valley ladies settled for a 0-0 tie in a game marked by a stellar goalkeeper and defensive play by both teams, and moved into the title game against Folsom where they emerged with their 3-2 penalty kick victory.
