LIVERMORE ELITE WRESTLING CLUB COACH RICH BAILEY
Livermore Elite Wrestling Club (LEWC) travelled to Myrtle Beach, SC for the Super 32 wrestling tournament. The “Super 32” is widely considered one of the toughest tournaments in the country, and attracts most of the top wrestlers every year. LEWC had two wrestlers competing this year— Granada’s Carter Bailey (126 lbs) and Dublin’s Julian Victoria (145 lbs).
This is the first time that LEWC has sent competitors to this event. This tournament was a double elimination tournament, meaning that you had to lose twice to be eliminated from competition.
126 lbs: This weight class was stacked, featuring the #1 and #2 ranked wrestlers in the country. In addition to that, there were also 9 other Nationally ranked wrestlers in this weight class. That’s 11 of the top-20 wrestlers in the country, battling to place top-8 of this tournament! Once weigh-ins were completed, the final number of competitors at this weight class was: 144.

CARTER BAILEY’S WILD RIDE TO SUPER 32
Carter Bailey was hoping to make some noise at this tournament, and possibly place, if he could beat a couple of those Nationally ranked guys. He lost his first match to a tough kid from Illinois, which dropped him into the depths of the consolation bracket. From this point in the tournament, Carter would need to win 9-straight matches, while navigating a gauntlet of some of the toughest wrestlers in the country.
Carter battled back and won 6 straight matches, and only needed to win one more match to qualify for the second day of the tournament. That 7th match happened to be the #2 ranked kid in the Nation, Jordan Titus (NY). Titus was the #2 seeded wrestler, but had just been upset in the Championship bracket, dropping him down into the consolation bracket. Carter wrestled an incredible match, defeating Titus, 5-2!
Day 2 . . .
Day 2 of the tournament did not get any easier for Carter. Nicolar Rivera (WI), ranked #12 in the nation, was Carter’s first match. Rivera was a 2x Greco-Roman National Champion and 2-time Wisconsin State Champion. Carter again battle hard, showing grit and determination, defeating Rivera 4-3. This moved him forward in the tournament, to the “blood round” (if you win you place top-8, if you lose you’re eliminated). Carter had to face Jack Gioffre (CA), currently ranked #14 in the Nation (at 120 lbs).
Gioffre is a 2-time CA State Placer and a State Finalist. Carter defeated Gioffre in a tight match, 3-1. This was Carter’s 9th consecutive victory, and assured him of placing. Carter’s next match was against Hunter Mason (TN), who is a Tennessee State Champion. Carter lost this match, 4-1, dropping him into the 7th Place match where he faced the #15 ranked wrestler in the country; Kelly Dunnigan (NJ). Carter won a hard fought match, 4-0, to claim 7th place!
Carter wound up having 12 matches over the 2 days of competition, winning 10 of them and losing 2. He defeated 4 Nationally Ranked wrestlers en route to placing at the prestigious Super 32 tournament! This will lead to a National Ranking for Livermore’s Carter Bailey, who is a Senior at Granada High School.
