AROUND THE HORN

It was an uneventful week at the top of the NorCal Baseball Rankings, as each of the top five teams took went unscathed, despite some tough matchups.

There were a pair of inter-Top 10 matchups on Friday as No. 3 De La Salle cruised to a 12-1 win over former No. 6 Foothill-Pleasanton and No. 1 Mitty topped No. 8 Bellarmine 4-2. Foothill’s loss made it the lone Top 10 to drop out of the top half of the rankings, but not too far down. A two-run loss to the No. 1 team did not cost the Bells any positioning.

Taking Foothill’s place inside the Top 10 is a fellow East Bay Athletic Team that’s also new to the rankings entirely this week. The Wolves jump from the “5 Teams Knocking” to debut at No. 10 this week after a 3-1 win over Foothill and a 7-0 shutout of previous No. 12 Granada-Livermore. SRV also has wins over Amador Valley (currently knocking at 5-1) and Inderkum-Sacramento (which split a pair of games with former No. 16 Woodcreek-Roseville last week).

Hollister brings its undefeated record into the rankings this week after sweeping a pair of games against previously-unbeaten and former No. 19 Palma-Salinas last week. The Haybalers, who debut at No. 13, have also posted quality victories over Live Oak and Menlo-Atherton.

Two more teams joined the party in spots No. 19 and No. 20. Dublin has been a pleasant surprise so far and benefits from San Ramon Valley’s rocket launch into the rankings. The Gaels own a 1-0 win over SRV from March 16. Winners of its last six, Dublin will have a prove-it week with two games against No. 14 Granada.

Redwood-Larkspur was part of our Preseason Top 20 and returns to take the final spot in the rankings. The Giants have won six straight, which includes a pair of two-game series’ against quality clubs, San Marin-Novato and Tamalpais.
