Who runs the world? While many know the iconic lyrics to this song, the same answer rings true for a new sports network.
A new network called All Women’s Sports Network, or AWSN for short, is launching in the U.S. this week. The network is dedicated exclusively to coverage of women’s sports.
The announcement was made by actress and comedian Whoopie Goldberg during an appearance on The Late Night Show with Jimmy Fallen. Goldberg revealed the network will cover sports such as soccer, basketball, tennis, curling, and everything in between.
“If a woman is playing it,” she said, “We’re showing it.”
The network will air games and matches across women’s sports across the globe including the the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) as the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), The International Basketball Federation (FIBA), and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA).
Other content includes its docuseries Sports Woman: New Heights and Invincible which features an episode on Serna Williams.
According to its website, AWSN is available in 65 countries. The sports network is currently available in Asia, the Middle East, and India. The network currently has women’s field hockey in Australia and women’s football in Sweden slated for this week.
AWSN is co-founded by Goldberg and Jungo TV to fill the gap in women’s sports coverage and to celebrate female athletes.
The network is expected to be available this week.
