Jordynn goes to the Michael Johnson Invitational
Hi everyone, it’s Jordynn! It’s was a very busy week with training, track meet and attending the Michael Johnson Invitational at Baylor University!
Team District Champions:
I wanted to start off by saying Congratulation to all my 7th grade McCowan Middle Teammates for winning the Team District Championship! Happy we were finally able to get most of us together for this picture. It was great being part of a team with very supportive coaches that always motivated and cheered us on!
Overall, there was some great performances:
Malaysia Smith: 100m, 1st place
Peyton Neeley: 300 Hurdles, 1st place
McCormick: Long jump, 1st place
ShalanceVaniya Richardson: Triple jump, 3rd place
Kayla Effiong: 200m & 400m, 1st place
4X400 Relay: 1st place
4X100: 2nd place
4X200: 1st place
Monday:
On this day, I did 3x 850m runs. My times were 2:54, 2:57 and 2:55. I felt pretty good during these runs, I just have to focus on my breathing, which has been challenging.
Finished up with 3x 150m sprints. I focused on staying tall, striking the ground on the balls of my feet and holding my form all the way through. The 150s were hard to complete as I was tired after the 850s.
Thursday:
On Thursday, I did 10 acceleration runs and Coach Stixx (LeJerald Betters, True Buzz Head Coach) took me through this workout. It’s pretty cool because he keeps me motivated with his energy! He also gives me a lot of great tips on how to run properly.
Saturday:
I competed in the Desoto Nitro 5th Annual Track Meet. I was planning on running the 400m & 1500m races but 1 hour before the race I found out I would run the 3000m. I wasn’t prepared but I gave it my best. I finished 1st but i could’ve done a lot better with my running strategy, relaxed running and breathing. Great it was only the 1st meet and it’s early. Now I can start training for my longer races and get better every week.
Michael Johnson Invitational:
Later that day, I got a chance to go to Baylor’s last home meet of the season. Some great teams competed like Texas A&M and Texas Tech.
Some highlights was seeing Jazmine Fray (Texas A&M) compete in the 4×400 and 800m. Great to be able to meet her too. She told me, “never get down about a 800m time because it’s such a different race every time.”
Also seeing Texas Tech junior Divine Oduduru set works best times in the 100m and 200m races!
Lastly, Demitra Carter ran for a career best 11.46 in the 100m and for the win!
I’m looking forward to competing next weekend and improving each week!
Have a great week!
Jordynn
