The Folsom Bulldogs have a storied high school football program. Just 4 years ago, the school committed a record-breaking seven student-athletes to Division 1 football programs. One of the most notable, Jake Browning, the University of Washington star, who was just drafted to the Minnesota Vikings. Here’s our take on 4 alumni players to watch in 2019.

As an aside, perhaps we’ll get to see him play this preseason. The Vikings are scheduled to face the Saints on Friday, August 9th, the Seahawks on the 18th, the Cardinals on the 24th and the Bills on the 29th. Top betting sites have the Vikes listed as three-point underdogs in New Orleans.

Josiah Deguara

Another notable Bulldog is Josiah Deguara. Deguara snagged 38 receptions along with five touchdowns and 658 yards during the 2018 season. Now he’s back as a Senior and is regarded as one of the Cincinnati Bearcats’ impact players. Deguara should get even more action this year as Desmond Ridder, coming off of his redshirt freshman season as QB will now have more control over the offense. Deguara and Ridder established a rapport last year, so you can bet the talented Tight End will be a go-to outlet for the sophomore QB in 2019. 

The Bearcats have a lot of talent at TE, but we expect Josiah Deguara to be the number one guy and declare for the 2020 NFL Draft at the end of the season.

Cody Creason

The gregarious offensive lineman is still at the University of Arizona as a redshirt Senior. Last year he was Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention and started in all 12 games. His durability and versatility are paramount. He played two games at right tackle and ten at left guard. In this, he is pivotal in both pass protection and the the Wildcats’ smashmouth running game. Creason helped the ‘Cats attain a 202.4 yard-per-game rushing average in 2018. 

He is definitely a player to watch in 2019 and with his skill-set and at 6’4, 295-lbs, we should see him at the next level in 2020.

Sam Whitney

The highly regarded Defensive End for the Boise State Broncos suffered an ACL tear back in April. It is unclear how much this will affect his Senior season. Perhaps he will sit and go for a 6th year of eligibility? Or perhaps he’ll recover in time to get a significant amount of games in. Either way, he’s made our list of former Folsom players to keep an eye on. 

Jake Browning

Browning is trading reps on the Minnesota Vikings third-team with Kyle Sloter. But Sloter has been inconsistent and it’s looking like he will lose the back-up role that everyone thought he was a shoe-in for to Sean Mannion. At this point, it makes sense that Jake Browning is fourth on the depth chart. In 2018 Sloter played four games and threw 4 TDs with no interceptions on 56 pass attempts (41 completions). This was good enough for a 114.1 QB rating. But Browning has all the makings of a star NFL QB, and could move up the Vikings’ chart.

So it’s Browning who is our Folsom player in the NFL to watch in 2019.
