Highlights from our Fall Athletes of the Year banquet honoring Campolindo’s Carrie Verdon and De La Salle’s Michael Barton.
On Feb. 7, we held our quarterly awards banquet at McCovey’s Restaurant in Walnut Creek. This banquet’s honorees were Campolindo-Moraga cross country runner Carrie Verdon, and De La Salle-Concord football standout Michael Barton.
Verdon won her second straight California Interscholastic Federation Division III state championship on Nov. 26, 2011. She went undefeated through her entire senior season.
Barton was a three-time starter at linebacker for a Spartans team which won its third consecutive CIF Open Division State Championship bowl game. The defense starred in the state championship bowl game against Westlake-Westlake Village, holding the Warriors’ high-octane offense (35 points/game) scoreless. Barton was one of two Northern California players to be a finalist for CalHiSports.com’s Mr. State Football Award.
