Folsom – Sophomore – Basketball
The point guard scored 13 of his 17 points in the second half and overtime of the Bulldogs’ 58-55 overtime win over Delta River League rival Jesuit-Carmichael. His floor leadership and tenacious defense have been just as important as his ability to fill the basket in leading Folsom to a 23-2 record, including a perfect 8-0 mark in DRL action. Ford is averaging 22.9 points, 3.7 assists, and 3.7 rebounds per game while providing a steady calming presence on the court for the young Bulldogs. He scored a career-high 39 points in a victory over cross-town rival Vista del Lago earlier in the season, and also 34 points in a league win over defending state Division I champion Pleasant Grove-Elk Grove.
IN HIS OWN WORDS: “We are just going to go out and play hard (in the playoffs), like we always do. Our team has heart, so being young doesn’t matter to us. We will go out and compete no matter who we play.”
WHAT YOU DIDN’T KNOW: Ford is no stranger to championships, having won a pair of California state chess titles as a youngster. Jordan captured two state championships at age 5 and 7, peaking with national ranking of No. 9 in second grade before giving up competitive tournaments to focus on basketball.
