Kurtz showed he’s rounding into fine mid-season form with a dominant effort at the Stanford Invitational on April 5. The standout sprinter won the 400 meters — his signature event — in a time of 47.58 seconds. It was the third straight year that Kurtz has won the event at the Stanford, where he coincidentally is committed to attend next fall.

The winning time wasn’t a personal best, but it was fast enough to be the top 400 time in the state so far this season. Kurtz is a heavy favorite for an NCS title and is trending toward improving on his 4th-place finish at the CIF State Championships a year ago.
IN HIS OWN WORDS: “My main focus (over the next two months) will be staying healthy and avoiding some of the nagging injuries that have bothered me in the past. I also need to get in better shape because I’m not as comfortable over the last 200 meters of my 400 than I should be.”
WHAT YOU DIDN’T KNOW: Frank says he a bit of a computer nerd. And it’s not just using them, but also noodling with hardware components and trying to figure out how they’re put together.
