California swimmers scored big time in Portugal at the U.S. 13-15 National Synchronized Swimming Team where Team USA won bronze in the team final Sunday on the final day of the Mediterranean Cup.

It was the second bronze medal for the U.S. at the event. Yara Elian and Nicole Goot finished third in duet on Saturday.

“It was a great competition to finish with two medals,” said Myriam Glez, USA Synchro’s Executive Director and High Performance Director. “We are very happy with the work done this summer and the attitude of the athletes. It is a good promise for the future.

“Four of these athletes are going to the National Training Center, and five of them are still age eligible for next year’s Comen Cup.”

Also Sunday, Elian was seventh in the solo competition, finishing with 149.4488 points. She scored 76.5332 points in the free final and 72.9156 points in figures. Russia’s Antonina Bazlova won gold with 164.0801 points.
