In a thrilling, closely contested finish, Central Washington defeated defending champion Arizona for the West Coast Collegiate 7s Championship at Sheeran Field on Treasure Island on Sunday, Oct. 22 by a score of 17-15. The Cal Bears finished in third place, beating Utah Valley University, 29-7. Earlier, UC Davis captured the Bowl final over Cal Poly and Western Washington took home the Shield by beating UC Santa Barbara for the second time in two days, 17-0. 

 

An enthusiastic crowd was treated to two full days of rugby, with 16 top West Coast collegiate teams under sunny, ideal conditions. Saturday featured four-team brackets with winners emerging from the round-robin format into Sunday’s Cup Bowl and Shield competition. The Cup Quarter finals saw Cal shut out SDSU 29-0, UCLA falling to Central Washington 24 -21, defending champs Arizona handling USC 34 -0 and Utah Valley University beating ASU 21-14.
