The 18th Annual Mat Classic Wrestling Championships held at Granada High School in Livermore proved once again to be among the most competitive tournaments in the Bay Area. This year’s tournament featured several section and state level wrestlers ranked by the California Wrestler (TCW), Making his name known on the section and state radar was Livermore junior Xavier Williams at 197s.

In Good Company!

Featured wrestlers also included #8 Carter Bailey (Granada, NC), #14 Edison Alanis (Franklin, SJ), HM Marcus Mandler (San Leandro, NC), #26 Cole Sanchez (Northgate, NC), and #10 Joe Valdez (Placer, N).

In the championship final, Williams defeated Franklin’s Dylan Myers (#22) in A tightly contested match by a decision of 5-4.

The feature match of the evening was in the championship final at 182 with #5 Jack Kilner (Granada, NC) and #8 Malik Lewis (Franklin, SJ). Each coming off outstanding performances at the prestigious Doc Buchanan Invitational in Clovis, Kilner and Lewis battled throughout the entire match, which finally ended in OT. It was then that Lewis secured the final takedown after a hard-fought scramble for the championship.

Led by individual champions Carter Bailey (113), Majed Moussali (128), and Edward Vilchis (154), Granada produced eight medalists overall. This to edge out Franklin-Elk Grove High School for the team championship.
