It’s true that there is no greater feeling than finishing a tough workout mentally, but there’s also something freeing about taking off cleats, spikes, or sneakers and physically allowing your feet to stretch and breathe. After changing out of performance footwear, athletes across all sports should slip into a pair of recovery shoes to help restore their feet after intense activity.

A good pair of recovery shoes helps prevent blisters, promote circulation, boost comfort, and kickstart muscle recovery in the feet and ankles. When shopping for recovery footwear, many athletes opt for open-back designs, such as the newly released Revive OB from KANE Footwear.

KANE Footwear released the Revive OB in March as the first open-back recovery shoe in its lineup.

“We often take recovery for the foot for granted. KANE looks to address that need in a variety of ways,” said Joe Distor, KANE Footwear advisor and NFL strength and conditioning coach. “The Revive OB will make it even easier to prioritize recovery during transitional moments that often get overlooked. Every second counts when you are a professional athlete, so it is refreshing to see KANE take a thoughtful approach to the footwear athletes want and need.”

Along with its hands-free slip-on design, the Revive OB features a raised footbed with nodes that act as pressure points to stimulate blood flow, jumpstart circulation, and ease fascia tension.

The soles also provide traction, making them perfect for athletes still hyping up teammates on the sidelines during football, basketball, or volleyball games.

This is a recovery shoe designed with professional athletes in mind.

“At KANE, we’re constantly in talks with top athletes in the NFL, NBA, and other professional leagues,” said John Gagliardi. “It’s their feedback that helps us develop the recovery tools elite athletes depend on. The Revive OB originated in these discussions and was developed in collaboration with our Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Daniel Geller. This is our intentional take on a footwear staple that doesn’t compromise recovery. We always seek to introduce high-quality, sustainable recovery shoes that are better for your feet and raise the bar for the recovery footwear industry.”

SportStars put the Revive OB recovery shoes to the test to see how well they perform in our full review below.

Design, Style, and Features

The Revive OB shoes were designed with the locker-room needs of professional athletes in mind. The name “OB” stands for “open back,” which is the centerpiece of the design. The idea is to allow for an easy transition from cleats, spikes, or sneakers into a recovery shoe while on the field, at a meet, game, match, or inside the locker room.

However, the shoes still feature an enlarged heel cup that hugs the back of the foot to provide more security than traditional slides.

The KANE Revive OB shoes are made with bio-based closed-cell RestoreFoam™, making them both functional for sports and stylish for everyday wear. The foam construction allows the shoes to dry quickly, making them ideal for sweaty feet or rainy-day sports activities.

From a style perspective, these recovery shoes simply look cool. They feature a futuristic aesthetic that brings a next-level design feel to recovery footwear. Oval-shaped ventilation holes across the upper provide airflow while also adding to the sleek overall appearance.

The Revive OB shoes are easy to clean, offer excellent grip, and feel incredibly comfortable. Altogether, they deliver a premium, fashion-forward recovery product for athletes.

COMFORT, SUPPORT, AND DURABILITY

There are multiple features of the Revive OB that contribute to its comfort. First is its soft yet durable foam structure, which provides ample cushioning that won’t wear down over time.

These recovery shoes feel great the moment they are put on, with the feet instantly feeling relief after taking off sports shoes or after spending a long day on your feet.

It does take a minute to get used to the feel of the footbed, but this is the best feature. The pressure-point footbed almost feels like having a built-in massage that delivers relief with every step. The Revive OB features noticeable arch support upon first wear, but it feels especially beneficial after intense workouts.

The Revive OB also features a balanced heel-to-toe drop designed to create natural propulsion and help save energy with each step.

These recovery shoes are easy to clean, flexible, and durable enough to withstand being tossed into a gym bag or worn around a busy locker room.

Overall, the Revive OB quickly became a go-to option for comfort and support after physical activity.

PERFORMANCE

The Revive OB is designed to help the body recover faster after workouts. While we cannot scientifically prove its recovery benefits, we can report that our feet felt noticeably less sore after long runs, while the comfort remained consistent during hours of errands, socializing, and mornings packed with sporting events.

Many athletes typically reach for standard sports slides because they are convenient. However, most traditional slides do not offer the same recovery-focused features as the Revive OB. Compared to other recovery shoes on the market, the Revive OB offers a strong price point, stylish design, and all the essential recovery benefits athletes look for — including arch support, cushioning, pressure-point relief, breathability, and an easy-to-wear design.

The Revive OB is also designed to “support the moments in between,” and we found that wearing these after intense gym sessions allowed the feet to feel supported while still being able to stretch and breathe naturally.

The outsole provides excellent grip, making these recovery shoes a strong option for slick fields, locker rooms, or everyday wear.

The Revive OB retails for $78 USD and is available in adult sizes M3/W5 through M17/W19. The active recovery shoe launches in four colorways: Bone, Stone, Black, and Neon Yellow.
