Sequoia and Carlmont to Meet for Third Time in Playoffs

After losing via a pair of complete games, the Scots will have a chance to get the last laugh.

If the Carlmont Scots didn’t like seeing the Sequoia Ravens take a photo in front of the scoreboard following Sequoia’s 3-0 victory that spoiled Carlmont’s Senior Day, they’ll have a chance to rectify things very quickly.

With Capuchino’s loss to Burlingame later that night on May 10, the Ravens secured one of the PAL Bay’s five automatic CCS playoff berths. Carlmont (14-13, 5-9 PAL Bay) was later selected as an at-large.

The No. 7 Scots will visit second-seeded Sequoia (14-13, 7-7) today in the CCS Division IV Quarterfinals. Though the Ravens swept the regular season series thanks to complete games by Max Stallings and Luke Ulrich.

Stallings gave up four runs in the first inning on May 8, but allowed no further damage as the Ravens scored five in the second and held on to win 5-4. Stallings supported Ulrich two days later, clubbing a no-doubt solo homer to left in the first inning, and Ulrich set the Scots down from there, fanning six and walking just one during a four-hit shutout.

Carlmont ended the regular season on a five-game losing streak that included a 21-6 loss to Hillsdale, but now has a new lease on life in the postseason.

The winner of the third and final meeting between the longtime rivals will face the winner of No. 3 Leland (15-10) and No. 6 Mountain View (14-13)
