Santa Margarita stops Mater Dei again, secures back-to-back CIF-Southern Section Open Division girls soccer championships

Felicity Nguyen scored back-to-back goals less than two minutes apart in the second half and Presley Schumaker produced a goal in the 39th minute to lead top-seeded Santa Margarita Catholic High to a 3-0 girls soccer victory against No. 3 Mater Dei in the CIF-Southern Section Open Division championship Feb. 28 at Fred Kelly Stadium in Orange.

The Eagles captured back-to-back Open Division crowns and secured the 10th section championship program history.

Santa Margarita also won consecutive division crowns for the first time since 2001-02.

Mater Dei was looking to capture its first Open Division title after winning the Division 1 championship last year against Troy at Fred Kelly Stadium.
