At the 2016 NorCal League Season Championships we awarded 11 North Conference and 11 South Conference NorCal League Awards to deserving student-athletes, coaches and volunteers. We’d like to introduce you to this year’s winners…we think you’ll agree, they are a pretty incredible bunch of people. Without further adieu, please welcome the 2016 NorCal League Award recipients!
2016 South Conference Coach of the Year
This award is for a certified head coach whose qualities as a leader and motivator embody NorCal’s mission. That mission is to provide student-athletes with the stellar, supportive and positive coaching and camaraderie.
Our goal is to help them achieve their goals.
This year’s South Conference deserving recipient is Albany High School MTB Team head coach Daniel Santos.
Santos has been with the League for over ten years. Daniel says, “It was a beautiful surprise to get the award. I’m honored since I can see that there are so many incredibly dedicated coaches all around me at every race. I love coaching because I’ve seen first hand how mountain bike racing and this community can be life-changing in wonderful ways for students and often for their families as well. I am very proud of helping provide a structure where these changes are possible.”
2016 North Conference Coach of the Year
This award is also for a certified head coach whose qualities as a leader and motivator embody NorCal’s mission.
This year’s North Conference recipient is Nevada Union Miners head coach Eric Newman.
Coach Newman is one of the longest-standing NorCal League coaches. He has 11 years coaching the Miners!
According to League Director, Vanessa Hauswald, “The amount of votes that Eric received for this award was astounding. He clearly has created a strong community of passionate high school cyclists in the Nevada City area. It has been my honor to work alongside Eric and to watch the magic that he creates with his team. Year in and year out, Eric is truly our gold standard for what a stellar coach, and human being, should be!”
